Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Description
As part of the Appalachian Heritage Project’s Arts Program, the AHP and the Strawberry Plains Campus sponsored two hikes to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for faculty, staff, and students to spend time in nature, learn about regional history, and engage in photography.
In June 2022, Dr. Steve Dunkin, Pellissippi adjunct professor of history and vice-president of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, acted as our guide to the historic John Oliver cabin in Cades Cove, Tennessee. In October 2022, Dr. Dunkin as well as GSMNP Ranger Brad Free took us on a tour of the historic Elkmont District in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
We hope the following photographs provide a small glimpse of how wonderful these outings in the mountains were for all of us who participated.
